Hartsop Hall mine is well worth having a poke around. I only had a short
amount of time, but found 5 levels, most of them were accessible. More time
needs spending here so I can have a real good explore. |
The old mine buildings near the valley floor. |
I think this is level 4, the main level of the mine. It is well camouflaged! |
Ready for action. |
Just inside the level. You can see to where
the level meets the lode, about 80m into the hillside. I'm not sure what the
thing is either side of the level, but it might have something to do with the
tubs they used to cart the ore in |
Goodbye daylight, hello mine. |
Near to the main lode, bright yellow mineral deposits adorn the walls. |
The level turned 90 degrees right, old wooden sleepers visible
on the floor. The loose rock ahead, is evidence of where the miners had
tried the ore vein in the roof. |
After about another 80m, the level opens out into the stope,
rising up about 15m. |
Railway lines. |
Me in the stope. |
Another level slightly up and along the hillside. Very low,
you'd have to crawl in the water. |
10m directly above the last level. I entered this one. |
Only 10m in, the stope is found. A hole in the floor reminds
of how unsafe these places are. If only I'd brought some bolts, SRT gear,
rope, someone else............ |
