Dropping down a steep bank, you find the entrance to Supercharger. A 2m round brick pipe
with a generous trickle of stream water entering. |
Oggy, Stoop Master and Jondoe just inside the entrance. Note the neat Victorian
brickwork. |
After 250m a strange wooden wall stands infront of a small RCP tributary, presumably
to disrupt the water flow. |
Another 250m and you come to the end of Supercharger Part A. A 10m stroll in daylight and then
you are........ |
Straight back underground in a tunnel beneath the railway line. |
Another 10m of daylight and you enter Part B which initially comprises of a unique
sort of upside down canal section. |
Round the corner are a few shopping trolleys and a small waterfall, which is deafening in
heavy flows. |
Halfway through Part B and a pipe goes across the ceiling. A small 1m RCP low down with the
unmistakable whiff of something brown, becons the hardcore to go further.
It yields well!! A low ceilinged chamber, the pipe from the roof in the shot before
entering one side and then the sewage flow going through an overflow filter and onwards to
the sewage works. In times of very heavy rain, the sewage can overflow through the straining screen
and into Supercharger to prevent houses becoming flooded with sewage. |
Back in the main drain and another long march down the now 2.5m brick pipe. Just as daylight approaches,
another tempting drain joins to the right hand side. Again the failiary warm whiff tells us
where we're headed! |
200m up a 1.75 RCP and an even bigger sewer overflow chamber, presumably the same sewer as
before. |
Finally you emerge into daylight, the obligatory questions arise from dogwalkers and then
the long walk back to the drain-mobile. |
