Nestled on the embankment of the Manchester Ship Canal, the impressive outfall of Double Trouble tempts the eager explorer. |
To get into the drain, requires a ladder, or knotted rope as we used. |
The twin exit pipes are 2m concrete box sections, not often found in drains around here. |
About 20m into the drain, and the two pipes join up into one massive concrete box. |
After walking for around 500m in a dead straight line, you come to the main feature. A small junction chamber with several small RCP's joining, the flow from the main drain ahead falling down a series of steps. |
A handrail for the old and infirm on the right of the staircase.... the main drain from this junction was 1.5m RCP and went for another few hundred metres. Ocasionally passing through a stair chamber, it shrank until we could take it no more and bailed out of a manhole. |
Bob lovin' the drains. A newbie to the drain scene get's his first taste underground!! |
