bunker - upstream branch

Turning left, the drain becomes a 10ft concrete arch for about 20m then opens up into Bunker's most impressive feature - The Giant's Staircase. The black steel pipe in the foreground, is a drain bringing road water down from the surface.

The Giant's Staircase. You are stood at the bottom of a 5m diameter shaft inclined at 45 degrees, a set of 1.5mx2m stairs lead up the left, a smaller set of access steps follow up the right hand side. A 1.5m RCP at the top of the chamber discharges it's water down the massive set of stairs.

From the top of the stairs, the RCP meanders in a very haphazard fashion, gradually shrinking smaller and smaller. We have followed it for about 600m.
